My journey into myofunctional therapy began in 1990, when an orthodontist watched me swallow and bluntly told me, “You swallow like a lizard!” I was sent to “tongue therapy,” where I learned to retrain my swallowing patterns. At the time, I had no idea those five words would shape my career.
I went on to attend Northwestern University Dental School and later opened a dental practice in Los Angeles with my husband. Over the years, I saw countless patients struggling with TMJ issues, teeth grinding, snoring, sleep apnea, dry mouth, and crooked teeth. We treated the symptoms, but I often felt there was a missing link.
That connection became clear in 2018, during a myofunctional therapy seminar, when I discovered I had a severe tongue tie that had gone undiagnosed my entire life.
In 2022, I finally completed myofunctional therapy and had my tongue tie released. The experience connected so many dots from my own childhood and transformed the way I viewed oral health, breathing, and facial function.
Inspired by my own journey, I pursued advanced training to become a certified myofunctional therapist. Today, I combine my experience as a dentist and myofunctional therapist to address the root causes of tongue thrust, mouth breathing, sleep-disordered breathing, and improper swallowing patterns.
My own path may have been a long one, but it is the reason I am so passionate about helping patients create lasting change through education, empathy, and integrative care.
Let’s train your tongue and improve your life!
